My new toy

At the end of last week I purchased a new bicycle. I have wanted a road bike for quite a while, and it seems now is the time to get them. Stores really want to get rid of the 2006 bikes, so they are willing to negotiate. I bought a Trek Pilot 1.2. This is considered a "performance" bike, rather than a racing bike. It has a more upright riding position, so it is more comfortable for people like myself with bad backs, but you are less aerodynamic than you would be on a racing bike. I have really enjoyed riding it. Yesterday I went with a friend for a ride from Evansdale to Brandon and back. It clocked in at 49 miles on my odometer. I have put about 76 miles on it in the past 3 days, which is not bad for a person who has not ridden farther than the mile and a half to work in about 5 years. Hopefully I can keep with this. I would really like to do Ragbrai with a couple friends next year.

  • yeah, stock photo, you know my bike has a Babe Ruth rookie in the spokes. The good cards sound so much cooler.

  • How do you like that bike? I just got a Cannondale 2004 R1000, it's a couple years old, my uncle found it in a Lincoln, NE bike shop; it's not used, just never sold. I haven't done any big distance trips yet and I've only topped out at going 31 mph so far.

  • yeah, I like it a lot. I want to start riding regularly. That is awesome that you got a bike too. Looks sweet! We will have to ride sometime. Nick Pete and I are thinking it would be sweet to do RAGBRAI next summer, if you would be interested in joining us. We just need to think of a clever team name.
