another lovely weekend

It was another lovely weekend in Cedar Falls. We decided to drop a couple trees in our yard over the weekend, and it went a lot better than I had expected. Krystal Matt and I went to town on them Friday evening, and got way more done than I thought we would. Then on Saturday and Monday we dropped the last bit of it and worked on cleaning up. Krystal was a huge help by mowing the lawn while I was moving logs and stuff on Monday. We are basically creating stacks of brush and logs for removal another time. Matt was so nice to offer his truck to assist in the removal. My brother John came back in to town for the big UFC night. That was pretty impressive, I was so happy to see Rampage take that fight. I think he is hilarious. Sunday Scott and Sarah hosted a going away party for Pete. Yard games were a blast followed by a fire. I think everyone had a good time. I still can't believe that Pete is leaving us. :( Monday I got to catch up with Brandon and his friend Barry from back home. It is always fun hanging out with them.
Last night Nick and I went for a ride, we were going to try to ride to Stout on 12th street, but it turned to gravel a lot sooner than we expected. We got about 24 miles in, we got pretty soaked in the rain, but it was a good time. Three days until the next weekend...

weekend riding

The weather this past weekend was beautiful, and I finally got out and put some miles on my bike. I really enjoyed getting out and seeing the trails again. Nick showed me a really nice loop that I can start by my place and ride Greenhill into Waterloo, then go through George Wyth then back through Cedar Falls. My in laws came in to town Saturday and we got some good riding in. I really like the trail system we have in this area. I am looking forward to getting back out this week. I have some major prep work to do to get ready for RAGBRAI.

Wedding

This past weekend Pete and Therese, two of my bestest friends got married. It was an absolutely beautiful wedding and everyone had a blast. Some memorable moments from the reception:
1) "Thong song" (Matt's song) Matt dropped them to show everyone his thong and shook it about for an uncomfortably long period of time. Hilarity ensued. My wife insists that the boys came out to party, but either way it was fantastic to see the horror on the faces of people who did not know Matt, and thus had not seen him pantless...
2) "The last slow dance" (the last goodbye) Scott cut in on my wife and I during the last slow dance to get a bit sentimental. I probably should have had my tux dry cleaned before returning it. ;) We spent the last dance together and I think he felt better after that.
3) Matt did manage to poop (topic of everyone's discussion)
4) The photographer (yes! yes!!!) told Scott and I that we were just a bit gay. From this guy, we could not hold in the laughter.
5)The limo driver (wearing a t-shirt from Therese's bachelorette party) cut off a nice fully restored Mustang Mach 1 on the way out of the church lot and they not only had to slam on the breaks, but also throw it in reverse to not get run over.

If you have more memories to share please do post them in the comments. Thank you Pete and Therese for a fantastic evening, thank you for inviting me to be part of it, and of course congratulate you!

lesson learned, and lawn

I learned a valuable lesson over the weekend... Do not clean the ice out of your freezer with a hammer and chisel. The door on our small fridge in the basement would not close all the way because of ice, and rather than defrost it, I thought it would be good to just chisel it out. Unfortunately as I was about to finish I ruptured one of the coils and killed the fridge.
My lawn is getting long again. I am really having a difficult time getting motivated to mow it. It takes me about 2 hours to mow the whole yard, I really want to get a riding mower. I looked in to the small riding mowers that are just mowers, and you can get 2 garden tractors with mowers for the same price. I don't understand that. Someday we would like to build a shed in our back yard, but that is not going to happen real soon, so if we did get a mower it would probably be stored outside, so I would have to get a cover or something for it... Anyway, my lawn is long. On the topic of my lawn, TruGreen called us in March and asked if they could spray our yard in early April. I agreed to this, they were to spray fertilizer, weed control, and bug control in early April. We were charged for this in early April, but it still has not been done. I called and they informed me that I prepaid, and that they would get to it as soon as possible. As we speak the weeds are completely out of control, and getting tall, because I don't want to mow them.
